Foley Sister Cities 3rd Annual 5k Oktoberfest Run More Than Doubles Their Runners

Foley, AL – Foley Sister Cities Commission hosted its 3rd annual Oktoberfest 5K and Fun Run at OWA on Saturday, October 4, 2025.  The race was proudly sponsored by WAS, Riviera Utilities, Admiral Seafood Company, Riverview Turf, Point Broadband, and Baumhower’s Victory Grill.  Runners and walkers participated from all over the US (i.e. Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Oklahoma etc.).  The number of runners more than doubled from last year.  They went from 119-247.   Participants came dressed in creative costumes, including German Oktoberfest attire (dreidels and lederhosen).  Prizes were given for the best costumes.  Bratwursts, sauerkraut, bier, and pretzels were enjoyed by all. Participants received an official event T-shirt.  Medals were presented to place runners and walkers.  Folks were heard saying that this was a thrilling event and they are coming back next year.  Money raised from the run will assist FSC with their many initiatives, but the major initiative is to financially assist Foley High School students and teachers with the high cost of international travel to Germany. This can only happen because of all of you, our runners, our sponsors, our volunteers, and the hardest working committee ever.  For race results and a photo gallery, check out Foley Sister Cities Facebook: https://tinyurl.com/Foley-Sister-Cities.

The Foley Sister Cities Program is working on an educational exchange program of teachers and students with Hennef, Germany.  Foley Sister Cities along with Foley High School will be sending students and teacher chaperones to Germany in summer 2026.  They will stay in the homes of Hennef residents, their host families.  During Marid Gras week 2026, Foley will host teachers and students from Hennef who will stay in the homes of Foley host families.

Foley Sister Cities has published an international, intergenerational cookbook.  High school students and senior citizens worked together from both countries to gather 80 recipes.  The recipes are in both English and German.  This makes a wonderful birthday or holiday gift.  Recipe books are available at Dorthy June Book Sellers and The Book Exchange in Foley, Amazing Finds in Summerdale and Forgotten Finds in Elberta, or contact Foley Sister Cities at FoleySisterCities@gmail.com.
