Columbia Southern University Launches Leadership Podcast from Veterans’ POV

‘2 Knights & a Mic’ Discusses Education, Leadership and Finding Your Purpose

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Columbia Southern University recently launched a podcast, “2 Knights & a Mic.” The monthly podcast hosts include two U.S. Air Force veterans: Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force (ret.) #18 Kaleth Wright, who serves as the director of military affairs for CSU, and Command Chief Master Sgt. (ret.) Todd Simmons. Simmons is the associate vice president of military, veteran and family programs, as well as an adjunct criminal justice and homeland security professor for the university.

“As we observe National Veterans and Military Families Month, I’m reminded that America’s strength isn’t measured in hardware or headlines—it’s found in the quiet courage of those who serve and the steady resolve of the families who stand the watch at home. Your service is our standard; your sacrifice is our call to lead with purpose, humility, and care,” said Simmons.

The two started the podcast to discuss topics of education, leadership and finding your purpose. The pair, longtime friends, share stories from their military careers and from various guests of the show.

A recent episode featured former NFL linebacker Edgar Jones. When asked about discovering his identity and purpose outside of football, Jones responded with a story from his early days in the league.

“The seeds was planted when I was playing. I had a guy that was getting ready to retire when I was first coming in and he said, ‘Find you a mentor’,” said Jones. “‘Look at somebody that’s obeying the message they speak about.’”

Approximately 35% of CSU students are active-duty military, veterans or families. The university also recently introduced a concentration in space operations within its College of Space, Intelligence, and Military Operations. To listen to “2 Knights & a Mic,” visit Apple Podcasts.
